No to Censorship Protest in Lebanese Movie Theater!

After 10 days of screenings, panels and events, the closing ceremony of the 9th edition of Beirut Cinema Days (a.k.a Ayam Beirut Al Cinema’iya) in Lebanon wasn’t quite usual.

After receiving several bans and censorship from the Lebanese General Security for many selected films in the festival including The Beach House by Roy Dib and The Preacher by Magdy Ahmed Aly, the festival tried to raise the voice in a different way and this cinematic revolution event proved that it really deserves this title.

In the past few days, several videos of filmmakers, organizers in the festival and supporters were posted on social media inviting people to join a protest scheduled during the closing ceremony of the festival at Metropolis Cinema in Sofil Center, Ashrafieh. This event took place tonight and many cinematic supporters, professionals as well as the public gathered in Metropolis Cinema holding their signboards, each one stating a different sentence, but all of them were saying “No to censorship”.

In order to see how this really happened in a very peaceful, decent and beautiful way, check out the following video and photos taken by the organizers a while ago.

Well done Beirut Cinema Days team and Lebanese audience!

How Zaha Hadid was of Major Influence on Fashion

She may be best known for her architectural designs. Nonetheless, Hadid had a major impact on the fashion industry not only through the Chanel famous Mobile Art Pavilion she designed, or Atelier Swarovski’s installations she created to commemorate its 20th anniversary but also through jewelry and fashion pieces.

Through her collaborations with Danish label Georg Jensen, Swiss brand Caspita and Lebanese Aziz and Walid Mouzannar, Hadid proved herself to be polyvalent and interdisciplinary, getting her inspiration to conceive jewelry from architecture and sculpture. She also collaborated with Lacoste, United Nude and Melissa Shoes to create some “futuristic” shoe designs. This is just a short list of Hadid’s contribution and vision to the fashion world.

It doesn’t seem surprising to know this side of her when we hear her confess to Vogue: “Architecture is how the person places herself in the space. Fashion is how you place the object on the person”.

Glamour Hits the City Centre of Beirut!

SS2016 collection has officially kicked off at the City Centre Beirut yesterday evening through a glamorous fashion and jewelry show which featured the crème de la crème of Lebanese and Western designers. The event, organized by the one and only Cynthia Sarkis Perros (Luxury Limited Edition), transformed a typical mall into a sizzling catwalk.

As usual, we couldn’t but pick our best of the night and our short list includes:

  • Azzi & Osta’s magnificent gown with gold embellishments and origami folds, a very particular signature of the designers.
  • Rami Kadi’s embroidered dress and its delicate cape.

Hass Idriss Reveals his Tarot Dresses in Paris!

The 2016 Paris Fashion Week ended more than a week ago, but we didn’t want to end our coverage without talking about a young talented guy who joined other Lebanese designers at this year’s PFW. We’re talking about Hassan Idriss, known by the name of Hass Idriss, who launched his Spring/Summer 2016 Couture collection in Paris.

This collection of twenty-two items, influenced by the tarot cards, was exhibited for the first time in Paris.

After graduating from Central Saint Martins and shadowing the greatest from David LaChapelle to Alexander McQueen, Hass decided to devote himself entirely to Fashion. His first show took place in London as part of the London Fashion Week.

Leading a creative army and surrounded by a string of women, Hass prefers tailoring garments that put the latter forward rather than the garment itself by committing to working only with the finest quality of material. Combining pieces from vintage old school techniques all the way to state of the art technology in the couturier’s creations, his clients, “cosmopolitan powerful women of different walks of life and silhouettes” can attest his prodigy.

Elie Saab’s Journey to India!

Saree-inspired gowns with a twist wowed the audience at the 2016 Elie Saab Couture Show in Paris. Princesses enchanted the guests in delicately embroidered pieces featuring grayish waistcoats, glittery bustiers, chiffon skirts, thin belts underlining thin waists and tiny wallets that suit the dreamy adventurous lady Saab is dedicating to his collection.

With a stroke of genius, the Master Elie Saab succeeded in merging modernity and traditions, offering us a trip into the Indian jungles and culture. His color palette is composed of powdered shades of beige, silver and grey, with delicate white and a generous touch of blue, the only “explosive” color of the show. The loose pants and the dupatta (India scarf) highlight the Indian inspiration.

SS2016 – Paris Fashion Week: A Sneak Peek into Georges Hobeika’s Gorgeous Couture Collection: A Wind of Flowers and Delicateness

He never ceases to amaze us. As a matter of fact, he is always ahead of our expectations. He is one of our favorite designers and we can’t but be amazed by everything he does.

Georges Hobeika’s SS2016 Couture Collection was unveiled today, January 25, 2016 at the Monnaie de Paris in a glamorous atmosphere accentuated by a glowing audience.

The collection is a burst of beautiful pastels and flowers. It is distinguished with its incredible small details and the finest embroideries on rich fabrics. A bouquet of splendid flowers wrapped around fingers and arms along with the marvelous small clutches bearing the designer’s initials complete the look.

What is bold and daring about this collection is the flats Hobeika opted for instead of high heels for short and mi-length dresses, accentuating the cuteness, softness and delicateness of the collection.

The dresses suit all tastes and heights: petites would love to try the short and mid-length dresses and match them with ballet flats of floral derbies. Taller gals would go for gowns with capes and fluffy long skirts.

We salute Hobeika for this masterpiece and will reveal the whole collection once the official photos are out. Stay tuned!

The King of Elegance and Boldness is Gone

We all remember the glowing Georgina Rizk at the 1971 Miss Universe Pageant, wearing a daring emerald costume which matched the color of her beautiful eyes. The amazing look is still considered one of the few looks which shattered pageant stereotypes worldwide (Girls Who Shattered Pageant Stereotypes).

Thanks to that unforgettable look, Georgina stood out among all contestants and won the title and the crown. Since then, few, I could even say no Miss Lebanon was able to stand out the way Georgina did in her William Khoury masterpiece.
