SAG 2016: Few Hot… and so Many Others Not!

I wonder what is happening to the award season! We are witnessing more bad taste, more bad looks and more people who wanted to make a fashion statement that turned out to be a complete failure. Thank God we still have Sofia Vergara to wow us in her hot pink Vera Wang custom made gown and Helen Mirren to dazzle us with her Jenny Packham silver gown!

From the 2016 SAG awards red carpet, see who’s hot and who is definitely not!

Ralph & Russo’s Ultimate Delicateness!

With a palette of pastels, designers Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo drew a beautiful collection whose highlight is undoubtedly the wedding gown with its kimono sleeves, multi-layered tulle skirt, duchess satin bustier, three-meter train that called for help when the model turned around, and the 3D silk organza petals, pearls and crystals, a masterpiece that suits royalty.

The collection included ball gowns and bold lingerie. Some gowns were literally painted; others featured embroideries, flower appliqués, features and ruffles.

The collection blossomed on stage like a Japanese cherry tree, delicate, ethereal and very feminine.

Guo Pei’s First Couture Show in Paris

The designer behind Rihanna’s controversial look at the 2015 Met Gala made her first appearance in the city of Haute Couture in 2016. Held at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, the show featured a blend of Eastern and Western inspiration.

It is true that Guo Pei is fiercely attached to her heritage which she highlights through mandarin collars, embroideries, the choice of the royal gold, the dragon figure, the imperial cape, the long and wide sleeves, the cross-collars, and the cheongsam-esque dresses, but she also manages to bridge the gap between West and East through youthful pieces that reminds us of a classy, “à la Audrey Hepburn” ambiance: aqua and pink, delicate whites, peach and a drizzle of feathers, crystal beads and florals.

Giambattista Valli’s Fluffy Dream

Vast skirts, layers and layers of tulle and organza, and sometimes just a bit over a silky dress, a burst of flowers, that’s how Giambattista Valli wanted to honor the city of gardens, Paris. Taking his inspiration from the flowers of famous Parisian gardens – Jardin du Luxembourg, Jardin des Tuileries, Parc de Bagatelle, Palais Royal, the collection features two trends : short dresses and fluffy (very fluffy) gowns. Valli loves flowers, princesses’ skirts and colors. His collection is like a fluffy dream.

It may be way far from meeting “practical” expectations, but who said everything has to be practical? Sometimes, a fluffy dream is all what we need….

Elie Saab’s Journey to India!

Saree-inspired gowns with a twist wowed the audience at the 2016 Elie Saab Couture Show in Paris. Princesses enchanted the guests in delicately embroidered pieces featuring grayish waistcoats, glittery bustiers, chiffon skirts, thin belts underlining thin waists and tiny wallets that suit the dreamy adventurous lady Saab is dedicating to his collection.

With a stroke of genius, the Master Elie Saab succeeded in merging modernity and traditions, offering us a trip into the Indian jungles and culture. His color palette is composed of powdered shades of beige, silver and grey, with delicate white and a generous touch of blue, the only “explosive” color of the show. The loose pants and the dupatta (India scarf) highlight the Indian inspiration.

SS2016 – Paris Fashion Week: A Sneak Peek into Georges Hobeika’s Gorgeous Couture Collection: A Wind of Flowers and Delicateness

He never ceases to amaze us. As a matter of fact, he is always ahead of our expectations. He is one of our favorite designers and we can’t but be amazed by everything he does.

Georges Hobeika’s SS2016 Couture Collection was unveiled today, January 25, 2016 at the Monnaie de Paris in a glamorous atmosphere accentuated by a glowing audience.

The collection is a burst of beautiful pastels and flowers. It is distinguished with its incredible small details and the finest embroideries on rich fabrics. A bouquet of splendid flowers wrapped around fingers and arms along with the marvelous small clutches bearing the designer’s initials complete the look.

What is bold and daring about this collection is the flats Hobeika opted for instead of high heels for short and mi-length dresses, accentuating the cuteness, softness and delicateness of the collection.

The dresses suit all tastes and heights: petites would love to try the short and mid-length dresses and match them with ballet flats of floral derbies. Taller gals would go for gowns with capes and fluffy long skirts.

We salute Hobeika for this masterpiece and will reveal the whole collection once the official photos are out. Stay tuned!
