Cate Blanchett: Once Again a Villain!

During the BAFTA Awards Tea Party last Saturday, Mark Ruffalo revealed some hot news about the new Thor film from the Marvel sequel, Thor: Ragnarok, while being interviewed by Entertainment Tonight. Ruffalo said that Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett might be the one playing role of the villain. It might be the role of “Amora” or “Hela” or maybe a new character.

So here’s the chitchat of ET with actor Mark Ruffalo:

ET: Your Thor 3 co-star, Cate Blanchett, is here tonight, are you happy about that?

Ruffalo: I’m so thrilled. I saw her at the Governors’ banquet here and heard that maybe she was circling, they were talking to her about the part, so I ran up to her and I was like, ‘Please, please, please make this work!’ She’s just one of the best, and to have her play a baddie is going to be really exciting.

It won’t be Blanchett’s first villain role, as she played the role of the evil stepmother in the 2015 BAFTA-nominated film Cinderella.

This third Thor movie, starring Chris Hemsworth as “Thor” and Mark Ruffalo as “Bruce Banner / The Hulk”, will be directed by Taika Waititi. The shooting of the film will begin in June 2016 and the theatrical release will be on November 3, 2017.

This is Cruella De Vil in The New Live Action Disney Movie

As we can see, Disney is preparing a continuous comeback for its classical animated films in brand new live-action movies, especially after last year’s Cinderella movie and the expected 2017 movie Beauty and The Beast, both of them telling the classical story that we know. As for Maleficent, the evil character of Sleeping Beauty, it was a totally different story. They changed the perspective of the film and the story was told from Maleficent’s point of view. This time, it’s the famous 101 Dalmatians baddie Cruella De Vil who will be the leading character of the new upcoming Disney movie. The story is most about the early days of Cruella, so she might have found the right actress to play her younger version: Emma Stone!

Kelly Marcel, known for her adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey and Saving Mr. Banks, is currently working on the script of the film.

Stone is in early negotiations to play this delightfully evil character, according to The Hollywood Reporter. As for the other cast members and the director, there are no names to be mentioned until further announcement which is not really far from now. The Hollywood Reporter also mentioned that the studio wants to start filming later this year.
