Guo Pei’s First Couture Show in Paris

The designer behind Rihanna’s controversial look at the 2015 Met Gala made her first appearance in the city of Haute Couture in 2016. Held at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, the show featured a blend of Eastern and Western inspiration.

It is true that Guo Pei is fiercely attached to her heritage which she highlights through mandarin collars, embroideries, the choice of the royal gold, the dragon figure, the imperial cape, the long and wide sleeves, the cross-collars, and the cheongsam-esque dresses, but she also manages to bridge the gap between West and East through youthful pieces that reminds us of a classy, “à la Audrey Hepburn” ambiance: aqua and pink, delicate whites, peach and a drizzle of feathers, crystal beads and florals.
