The King of Elegance and Boldness is Gone

We all remember the glowing Georgina Rizk at the 1971 Miss Universe Pageant, wearing a daring emerald costume which matched the color of her beautiful eyes. The amazing look is still considered one of the few looks which shattered pageant stereotypes worldwide (Girls Who Shattered Pageant Stereotypes).

Thanks to that unforgettable look, Georgina stood out among all contestants and won the title and the crown. Since then, few, I could even say no Miss Lebanon was able to stand out the way Georgina did in her William Khoury masterpiece.

William Khoury is gone… On Thursday, January 21st, 2016, the famous designer died in his home in Beirut. He was 75.

William Khoury is locally known for his collaborations with great figures like Sabah, Majida El Roumi, Salwa Katrib, Najwa Karam, Najah Salam, Samira Tawfik and Iran’s Empress Farah Diba making him one of the very first Lebanese designers to step into the fashion world internationally.

He designed more than 400 dresses for Sabah, making her the queen of elegance and matching her style with empresses’. He was well-known for his abayas as well as for his bold and unforgettable creations.

He organized an exhibition for Sabah’s gowns and displayed at Beit Eddine venue 25 dresses he carefully chose from a collection of 100 dresses he cherished and preserved.
