A Lebanese Model Hits Balenciaga’s Runway!

Spanish Maison de Couture Balenciaga showcased its SS2017 collection during Paris Fashion Week. The collection was defined by its flower prints and architecture shapes – two major signatures of Balenciaga. The collection was characterized by its vivid colors, brooches on draped tops, wide-shouldered trenches and jackets as well as large bags.

The collection was showcased at the Paris Event Space. It featured a Lebanese model and actress, Carla Daher, whose international debut would kick off with Balenciaga. Like the French say: “Affaire à suivre!”

When Technology Met Fashion at the 2016 Met Gala, Claire Danes in Zac Posen Made History!

The 2016 Met Gala was a rendezvous for Fashion in an age of Technology in an attempt to challenge the creativity of designers and the daring potentials of the stars. A lot of them failed the test, seduced by too much bling-bling. The Balmain dresses which invaded the red carpet were just too much for the eye: Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Cindy Crawford, Jourdan Dunn, Doutzen Kroes and Alessandra Ambrosia …

Sarah Jessica Parker looked like she made it out of a Shakespearian play! Nicole Kidman could pass as a galaxy with her stars, moons and meteor showers. Rita Ora was too feathery in her Vera Wang. Lady Gaga was back to her old tricks. Nicki Minaj was chained in her Moschino custom made outfit. Not to mention some extravagant hairstyles: Lupita Nyong’o and Diane Von Furstenberg’s. Or the odd popping red flowers on Elizabeth Cordry’s Gucci dress or even Ellie Bamber’s bed sheet look alike Giles Deacon outfit, topped with Grimes odd frock! Taylor Swift, Alicia Vikander and Selena Gomez in Louis Vuitton were a huge disappointment. Demi Lovato was a failure in her Moschino. The Lemonade lady Beyoncé, despite the adequacy of the peachy color with her complexion, failed to choose well her dress, falling for a latex outfit by Givenchy. As for Saoirse Ronan’s dress, it looked very crowded with the unexplainable feathers. On top of it all, Katy Perry, Madonna and Kris Jenner could officially pass as the evil witches of the evening!

Despite the faux-pas of so many stars, some others made daring fashion statements. Claire Danes in Zac Posen is one of the most extraordinary moments of fashion industry. The magical fairytale dress will never cease to amaze generations! If this is fashion at the age of technology, well count me in!

How Zaha Hadid was of Major Influence on Fashion

She may be best known for her architectural designs. Nonetheless, Hadid had a major impact on the fashion industry not only through the Chanel famous Mobile Art Pavilion she designed, or Atelier Swarovski’s installations she created to commemorate its 20th anniversary but also through jewelry and fashion pieces.

Through her collaborations with Danish label Georg Jensen, Swiss brand Caspita and Lebanese Aziz and Walid Mouzannar, Hadid proved herself to be polyvalent and interdisciplinary, getting her inspiration to conceive jewelry from architecture and sculpture. She also collaborated with Lacoste, United Nude and Melissa Shoes to create some “futuristic” shoe designs. This is just a short list of Hadid’s contribution and vision to the fashion world.

It doesn’t seem surprising to know this side of her when we hear her confess to Vogue: “Architecture is how the person places herself in the space. Fashion is how you place the object on the person”.

Glamour Hits the City Centre of Beirut!

SS2016 collection has officially kicked off at the City Centre Beirut yesterday evening through a glamorous fashion and jewelry show which featured the crème de la crème of Lebanese and Western designers. The event, organized by the one and only Cynthia Sarkis Perros (Luxury Limited Edition), transformed a typical mall into a sizzling catwalk.

As usual, we couldn’t but pick our best of the night and our short list includes:

  • Azzi & Osta’s magnificent gown with gold embellishments and origami folds, a very particular signature of the designers.
  • Rami Kadi’s embroidered dress and its delicate cape.

Check out more photos and dresses here.

The Most and Least Fashionable Moments of the 2016 Oscars!

I’ve been waiting impatiently to see some unforgettable fashion moments at the 88th Academy Awards. Let’s say that there were no wow moments. Some did a good job by avoiding many fashion mistakes others, unfortunately, couldn’t help but commit. • I’m not a fan of sequined dresses. But Naomi Watts in her navy Armani Privé looks like pure enchantment!

  • Once is accidental, twice is coincidence, three times: it is definitely a fashion transformation! Oh yeah, Lady Gaga stuns in her custom made jumpsuit by Brandon Maxwell

  • Although it may look crowded, Amy Poelher’s gown by Andrew GN couldn’t pass unnoticed! I love the wide sleeves and the embroideries, a perfect combination for a Japanese themed dress!

  • I would have loved Daisy Ridley’s look by Chanel if her skirt was shorter

  • I’ve been waiting for a dazzling look for Alicia Vikander whom surprised me until I saw the bottom of her dress which reminded me of bed sheets!

  • She might have wowed you with the sexiness of her dress, but Rachel McAdams didn’t nail the perfect look. Her look is simple and… I thought we’ve had enough of Angelina Jolie’s look-alike prostatic legs!

  • I’ve always liked how Kate Winslet celebrated her body and opted for simple yet elegant looks. But her choice yesterday was a huge catastrophe. The Ralph Lauren dress she chose reminded me of garbage bags! Sorry Kate, it was definitely not your night…

  • Ladies, ladies, the plunging neck is sexy but just don’t overdo it! And by that I mean Olivia Wilde in Valentino and Charlize Theron who could have bedazzled us in Dior if it wasn’t so simple (the color suits her perfectly but the look lacks some Oscar deserving glow)

The BAFTA Fashion Moments Roundup

As our impatient wait for the Oscars is reaching its end, we are still searching for some magnificent fashion moments on the red carpet. The BAFTA was not one of them… Nonetheless, we still got to pick (very) few best dressed ladies.

One of the best looks of the evening was Bond girl Olga Kurylenko’s who shined in a beautiful white lace gown by Ralph & Russo.

Olga Kurylenko

Hannah Bagshawe, Eddie Redmayne’s wife, carries her pregnancy with such classiness which was accentuated with her scarlet gown : simple, yet elegant, shaping her figure perfectly!

hannah bagshawe

We couldn’t but notice the extreme fondness of some stars for simple elegance like Kate Winslet in her Antonio Berardi black gown which celebrates her sexy curves and a touch of red with her Jimmy Choo clutch.

kate winslet

Heida Reed defied all the weather conditions and donned a perfect black gown with a sexy plunging neckline and a flowing chiffon skirt. Her waist is highlighted thanks to a think leather band.

We loved the upper part of Cate Blanchett’s gown featuring magnificent floral embroideries by Alexander McQueen. As for the skirt, well …. Can we skip to something else?

As for Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, let’s say the BAFTA look was her best so far among so many Louis Vuitton red carpet looks. We’re still waiting for a WOW moment… Maybe at the Oscars? (please, please)

SAG 2016: Few Hot… and so Many Others Not!

I wonder what is happening to the award season! We are witnessing more bad taste, more bad looks and more people who wanted to make a fashion statement that turned out to be a complete failure. Thank God we still have Sofia Vergara to wow us in her hot pink Vera Wang custom made gown and Helen Mirren to dazzle us with her Jenny Packham silver gown!

From the 2016 SAG awards red carpet, see who’s hot and who is definitely not!

Ralph & Russo’s Ultimate Delicateness!

With a palette of pastels, designers Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo drew a beautiful collection whose highlight is undoubtedly the wedding gown with its kimono sleeves, multi-layered tulle skirt, duchess satin bustier, three-meter train that called for help when the model turned around, and the 3D silk organza petals, pearls and crystals, a masterpiece that suits royalty.

The collection included ball gowns and bold lingerie. Some gowns were literally painted; others featured embroideries, flower appliqués, features and ruffles.

The collection blossomed on stage like a Japanese cherry tree, delicate, ethereal and very feminine.

Guo Pei’s First Couture Show in Paris

The designer behind Rihanna’s controversial look at the 2015 Met Gala made her first appearance in the city of Haute Couture in 2016. Held at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, the show featured a blend of Eastern and Western inspiration.

It is true that Guo Pei is fiercely attached to her heritage which she highlights through mandarin collars, embroideries, the choice of the royal gold, the dragon figure, the imperial cape, the long and wide sleeves, the cross-collars, and the cheongsam-esque dresses, but she also manages to bridge the gap between West and East through youthful pieces that reminds us of a classy, “à la Audrey Hepburn” ambiance: aqua and pink, delicate whites, peach and a drizzle of feathers, crystal beads and florals.
